Before & After Tarot Readings

Tarot readings can open energetic portals — emotional, intuitive, even spiritual. That’s why grounding is so important. It helps you stay centered, clear, and protected — before you open yourself up, and after you’ve received insight.
I’ve learned this the hard way. In the beginning, I used to jump into readings without much preparation. Sometimes I’d leave feeling lightheaded, scattered, or even emotionally drained. Over time, I started weaving grounding practices into my routine, and the difference was powerful. Readings became clearer, I felt more confident, and I could actually hold space for myself and for others.
So if you’ve ever felt “off” after a reading, this is for you.

🌿 Grounding Before a Reading
Take a Moment to Breathe
Before pulling cards, place both feet on the ground. Close your eyes. Take 3 slow, deep breaths. Let your mind settle and your energy come back into your body.
Create a Safe Space
Light a candle, burn incense, or hold a grounding crystal like black tourmaline or smoky quartz. Let your space feel intentional—sacred.
Set an Intention
Ask your higher self or spirit guides to support you. Something simple like:“Let this reading bring clarity, truth, and healing.”
Touch the Earth (if you can)
Even just stepping outside barefoot, touching a leaf, or holding a rock can help anchor you into the present.

🌙 Grounding After a Reading
Seal the Energy
Say a closing phrase like:“Thank you for the guidance. I now close this space with gratitude.”Visualize any energy released during the reading dissolving into light.
Shake It Off
Literally. Shake out your hands, roll your shoulders, stretch. Movement helps your body integrate and release.
Drink Water or Eat Something
Physical grounding helps you return to your body. A snack or a sip of water can work wonders.
Journal or Reflect
Writing down your impressions helps organize your thoughts. It also makes it easier to look back and track patterns over time.
Touch Something Natural
Reconnect with the earth—a plant, your pet, a bowl of salt, your favorite stone. Let it pull you gently back into your body.
Tarot opens the door, but grounding keeps you safe as you walk through it. These small rituals create a container for the energy, so it doesn’t spill into the rest of your day. Whether you’re reading for yourself or others, try adding even one grounding practice before and after. Your body, mind, and spirit will thank you.
